Steam Review Watch #1 — Score Flips, Velocity Spikes, and a 500K-Player Curiosity

Of the 29,950 games we snapshot every day, two changed their Steam score category this week, two tripled their usual review pace — and none lost a meaningful number of reviews. This is Steam Review Watch, a weekly log of what moved in Steam's review data, published every Monday.

1. Anomaly Top 5

GameAnomaly ScoreSignalReviewsPositive %
WANDERER: Broken Bed58Volume spike + category change27170.11%
Funi Raccoon Game50Volume spike1,48499.26%
Papa's Pizzeria Deluxe50Volume spike3,34098.65%
Mini Motorways50Volume spike23,25196.28%
Smushi Come Home50Volume spike2,02799.16%

The week's top anomaly is a small-sample story. WANDERER: Broken Bed added just 4 reviews in a day — against a 7-day average of zero — and that handful was enough to push it across Steam's 70% threshold, flipping the game from "Mixed" to "Mostly Positive." At 271 total reviews, a game's public verdict can hinge on three or four people having a good weekend. That fragility is invisible on the store page; it only shows up when you track the totals daily.

The rest of the board is a quieter pattern: four casual, Overwhelmingly/Very Positive titles (Funi Raccoon Game, Papa's Pizzeria Deluxe, Mini Motorways, Smushi Come Home) each posting roughly double their usual daily review intake. We haven't verified a common cause — weekend traffic and store visibility are the usual suspects — but the shape is consistent across all four.

2. Biggest Sentiment Shifts

Falling:

Game7d ChangeNowReviews
New Arc Line-0.55pp74.49%643

No game above our 500-review reporting bar climbed by half a point or more this week. The only mover was New Arc Line, drifting down 0.55 points to 74.49% — small in absolute terms, but at 643 reviews it sits close enough to the "Mostly Positive" boundary that a slow leak matters.

3. The Vanishing Reviews

A quiet week: no tracked game lost more than a handful of reviews inside this week's window.

We keep this section in every issue regardless, because review counts going down is the one thing Steam's storefront never shows you — it can reflect user deletions or platform moderation, and we can observe the change, not the cause. When it happens at scale, it changes scores. See our Slay the Spire 2 case study for what that looks like.

4. Score Category Changes

  • Escape the Ayurok dropped from "Very Positive" to "Mostly Positive" (79.9% positive, 985 reviews) — the only downgrade above our reporting bar this week.
  • WANDERER: Broken Bed climbed from "Mixed" to "Mostly Positive" (see above).

5. Velocity Outliers

GameToday7d AvgMultiple
Rusted Warfare - RTS+113.43.2x
Echo Point Nova+103.33x

Two games tripled their usual review pace. The absolute numbers are modest, but for back-catalog titles a sustained 3x multiple is usually the first visible trace of something — a sale, a content update, a streamer. Worth watching whether either sustains it into next week.

One to watch: TBH: Task Bar Hero

TBH: Task Bar Hero entered our active monitoring today at 35,998 reviews and 51.68% positive — "Mixed." The free idle RPG that lives in your Windows task bar launched on May 27 and reportedly peaked above 500,000 concurrent players, briefly putting it in Steam's global top three by player count.

Its review history (from Steam's public weekly histogram) is anything but idle: roughly 52% positive in launch week, crashing to 35% in week two — amid server failures, anti-cheat false bans, and a Valve-mandated cut to its marketplace item flow — then recovering to 68–69% through late June. This week it is slipping again, tracking around 57%.

A free game whose economy runs through the Steam Community Market, whose concurrent-player count wildly outruns its review count, and whose sentiment has already crashed and recovered once — that is exactly the kind of chart we built daily snapshots for. We'll report what the data shows in the coming weeks.

A note on method

We take a daily snapshot (03:00 UTC) of the total review count, positive/negative split, and Steam score category for every game in our active pool — 29,950 titles as of July 6, 2026. "Reviews lost" means the total count decreased between snapshots, which can reflect user deletions or Valve moderation; we observe the change, not the cause. Weekly shifts are computed across the 7-day window ending July 6. Reporting bars: 500+ reviews for sentiment shifts and category changes, 200+ for the anomaly board, to keep small-sample noise out.
